ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture treatment stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Illness occurs when too much or too little qi exists within the energetic pathways of the body that lead to the organs, muscles and nerves.  Qi can also stagnate and block the pathways, causing pain and discomfort.  Acupuncture treatment involves the use of very fine, hair-like, pre-sterilized, disposable needles.  They are placed at specific points on the energetic pathways to stimulate restoration of the smooth, harmonious flow of qi.  Used to treat both symptoms and the underlying condition, acupuncture is a powerful medicinal form.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Plan an hour for your first acupuncture treatment. After filling out an intake form about your medical history and main complaint, you will be escorted back into a treatment room with your practitioner. He or she will go through a thorough intake, asking you questions about things like your sleep, appetite, energy level, pain and headaches, hearing and vision, etc. Then your practitioner will look at your tongue and pulse in order to diagnose you. Chinese diagnoses, or patterns, are different than Western diagnoses. Examples are Liver Qi Stagnation, Spleen Qi Deficiency or Blood Stasis.

Based on your body’s pattern, your practitioner will choose somewhere between 8 and 25 points for acupuncture. You may feel a slight pinch upon insertion of some needles, but the process is relatively painless. All needles are pre-sterilized, stainless steel, single-use and hair thin. The needles are retained for approximately 30-40 minutes. Once they are removed, the practitioner will perform any accessory modalities that are appropriate for you, such as cupping, guasha or ear seeds. Every acupuncture appointment also includes an herbal consultation to assess your current health needs. Acupuncture facilitates the movement of herbs in your body, so the two together are a very effective form of treatment for many conditions.

Kron Acupuncture and Wellness Center does not bill insurance, but we will be happy to give you a form to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Many of our patients get reimbursed for most or all of the cost of their treatments.
